About Dog Health Atlas

What this is

Dog Health Atlas answers specific questions: why a dog is throwing up yellow, whether a cough sounds like kennel cough, how much chocolate is dangerous for a dog of a given size. Each article starts with a short, direct answer, lists the signs that mean you should call a vet now, and then explains the causes, what you can safely do at home and what a vet is likely to do.

Alongside the articles are free tools, such as the chocolate toxicity calculator, that show their arithmetic and the veterinary reference values behind every result.

How articles are written

Every article is built from published veterinary sources (veterinary manuals, university veterinary schools, specialist hospitals and animal poison control services) and cites them at the foot of the page. Where sources disagree or evidence is thin, the article says so rather than picking the most dramatic claim. The full process is described on how we research and check articles.

Who is behind it

Winzah, Editor. Winzah edits Dog Health Atlas and checks every article against the veterinary sources cited on the page. Winzah is not a veterinarian, so these articles are general information and never a substitute for your own vet.

What we will not do

• Diagnose your dog. Only a vet who has examined your dog can do that.
• Tell you to wait when the signs described are an emergency.
• Invent credentials, reviews or statistics.
• Recommend human medicines for dogs without a vet’s direction.
